St Andrews Map Search
<<< drag me out of the way! >>>
Welcome to standrewsmap.co.uk, a web site that maps physical locations in St Andrews and the area which surrounds it and links these locations to related on-line information, which provides you with more information about specific locations. We call this Contexturl search; putting physical locations in their spatial context and then linking these physical locations with related on-line information which helps you gain a better understanding of "what's there" in St Andrews.
This map is populated with data collected by Intamap who have created this spatial e-source for people who want to know more "what's there" in St Andrews and the area which surrounds it.
We currently use a Google interactive map, so that you can view this data in its spatial context. Physcial locations are best viewed on a map and not, as typically displayed on many other web sites, as a list, with no context to their actual location.
We've aimed to be as accurate as possible when plotting physical locations. Therefore the icons displayed on the map after clicking the buttons/icons on the layer control should all resolve to the actual physical location. The exception to this are Webcams and Blogs which will display icons in the region of the physical location.
You can explore this map by using the normal map controls and / or through our additional controls that will help you;
We hope you will enjoy using this web site and welcome your feedback. Should you know of, or discover any other relevant tourism locations in or around St Andrews that we have not yet plotted on the map and which are linked to further web based information, then please e-mail us about them.
We don't guarantee inclusion on the St Andrews Map, but we promise to review every suggestion.
More and more tourism businesses are adding Google Maps to their web sites to show their business location. This is very easy to do, and, indeed, is very helpful for inbound visitors. You can see an example of this sort of simple installation at http://www.intamap.co.uk/simple_location_map.html. A single marker pin shows the location of the business on a small Google map with some standard controls.
However, maps with one marker on them are the traditional preserve of pirates who have buried their treasure and fear it may be lost for ever!
Why not use the richer features of a Google Interactive Map to display and link to the local "Treasure" that surrounds your business location? If you are running a B&B, you might want to show prospective customers the nearby pubs, restaurants, and tourist activities; if you offer mountain guiding and tuition, you might want to tell people about the nearest railway stations and some selected B&Bs. Most businesses can benefit from showing prospective customers not only their own location, but also carefully chosen key points of interest around them.
With our Multi-Marker, Multi-Layer maps, you can do just that. You can make your web site location map more informative, creating a bigger, local, on-line presence for your business, and thereby attract more visitors to your web site.
When visitors first come to one of our maps, they see a single marker denoting your location. But a click of the mouse will reveal more locations relevant to your business.
These locations are curated and checked by Intamap - real, knowledgeable people making sure that the locations are pin-point accurate, up-to-date, and relevant.
Our locations are grouped in layers (or categories) which can be switched on and off on the map control panel. So, for example, your customer might want to see your location and your chosen restaurants but not be distracted by anything else. People find this ability to filter the information on a map engaging and useful; they become immersed in the map, exploring it and spending longer on your site.
We offer four standard layers as most suited to the Scottish tourism business: activities, places of interest, travel, and restaurants. However, there are many more layers available if you want to use our customised option.
We currently offer two versions of our mapping service: Embedded and Standalone.
Embedded maps are placed on your existing website, either on a new page or into one of your current pages, most usually the contact or location page. The map is sized to suit your web page.
You may not have your own website; it may be difficult or expensive to make changes to it - or perhaps you see search engine and other advantages in linking to a subdomain or standalone one-page website featuring your map.
Our standalone maps can be inserted into a subdomain of your existing site or we can host a new website for you with its own domain name.
People who use our maps do so because our maps offer:
quick access to information
information in context - you know where a location is on a map, you know
what category it is, and you can easily compare its key data with other
simple, consistent navigation
simple, consistent presentation of information
quick access to the original website
Location owners like our maps because we provide:
clear links back to their websites
a clear summary of their key information
an ability to differentiate themselves from other locations
Much of this is made possible through our MapLinks and InfoWindows.
What are MapLinks and InfoWindows and which combination is best for you?
MapLinks are the normal web links that you know and use everyday - except that instead of linking to a web page, they link to your location on our map. Click on your MapLink and it will take you to our St Andrews Map webpage, centre the map at your location, and open the InfoWindow that contains your information. You can use your MapLink in emails, on your website, business card - anywhere that you might use a normal link.
Our free layout displays the name of your organisation, the address, and a link back to your website.
This includes the Basic information, plus a permanent MapLink and phone and email listings. If you send us an image, we display it on the InfoWindow - this is a powerful way of promoting your location.
Example On This Map: Glenderran Guest House
As Silver plus space for another image and up to six further web links which can be used, for example, for special offers, your corporate video and four social media button web links. Research has demonstrated that web site visitors commonly look for specific information on a web site and prefer not to spend too much of their valuable time searching through the site to find it. Our web links provide quick, direct access to your key information.
Full customisation of the media channels is available. Hover over the web links bar below for a description of each icon. Contact us to discuss your customisation requirements and pricing.
Example On This Map: Drumoig Golf Hotel

To help you find your way around the map and view the locations displayed on it, we've customised a Google interactive map, adding bespoke controls, to help you navigate around the map more easily.
From the top of the map page, the additional controls are;
Layer Control Buttons > Click on an individual button to view all the locations on this layer. On clicking the button a vertical marker bar (in a darker colour) will appear at the right side of the button. When this bar is visible, the particular layer is switched on.
Layer Control Buttons > Click on an individual button to view all the locations on this layer. On clicking the button a vertical marker bar (in a darker colour) will appear at the right side of the button. When this bar is visible, the particular layer is switched on.
Show All / Hide All Buttons > Clicking on either button will either Show All the physical locations on the map or Hide All the physical locations on the map. When the vertical bar is visible on the right side of the button then this is the button which is active.
Search Input Box > If you want to find a specific physical location or if you want to browse through the list of physical locations on this map then either over type your search word in the search box (existing text reads "type search term here") or using the slider control on the right of the search box scroll down to view all the locations.
If you want to move the Search Box around the map or indeed off the map (if you have space in your browser window) then click and hold down on the Left Button on your mouse over the text "Drag Me!" at the bottom of the Search Box and drag the box where you want. Letting go of the button will lock the Search Box in the required screen location.
Area Selector Control > Click anywhere on the box to view a drop down selection of preset areas on the map. Clicking on any individual area will move the map to this area.
